Who We Are
This website is maintained by Bill Bryant, dba Small World Business Services ... Page updated June 25, 2005.

Our security is shattered by
rogue nations and violent
terrorist groups.

Uncontrolled economic
globalization creates new
challenges for workers
and local businesses.

The health of our world’s
environment is threatened by
runaway exploitation of
our “global commons.”

Poverty and disease cause
misery for millions.

The cost of war and militarism
drains the resources of our
economy – leaving less
for future generations.

Defend human rights and
individual liberties.

Implement creative solutions
to assure a peaceful, just and
ecologically sustainable
world community.

Promote a worldwide Culture
of Peace by supporting “global
education” in our communities
and schools.

Exercise our rights as
responsible citizens of
a global society.

Create a world governed by law,
based on strengthened and
democratized world institutions.

We envision a future in which nations
work together to abolish war, protect
our rights and freedoms, and solve
the problems facing humanity that
no nation can solve alone. This
vision requires effective democratic
global institutions that will apply the
rule of law while respecting the
diversity and autonomy of national
and local communities.

We are a membership organization
working to build political will in the
United States to achieve our vision.
We do this by educating Americans
about our global interdependence,
communicating global concerns to
public officials, and developing
proposals to create, reform, and
strengthen international institutions
such as the United Nations.

From www.globalsolutions.org

U.S. Global Engagement:
Promoting a multilateral foreign policy.
We advocate for a foreign policy that
makes us stronger and safer through
teamwork, cooperation, and effective
global institutions.

Peace and Security:
Advocating collaborative approaches to
prevent and resolve conflicts and
establish effective peace operations.
We promote an empowered, efficient
and accountable UN peacekeeping
capacity to meet the challenges posed
to the world by post-conflict regions.

International Law and Justice:
Strengthening laws and institutions that
protect human rights and help nations
resolve disputes peacefully.  We
promote U.S. cooperation with the
International Criminal Court to prevent
atrocities and help bring to justice
future Hitlers, Pol Pots, and Idi Amins.

International Institutions:
Proposing reforms to make
international decision-making more
effective, transparent, accountable, and
democratic.  We seek practical reforms
to improve the United Nations and
support a UN democracy caucus,
encouraging democratic nations to
lead UN decision-making bodies.

Health and Environment:
Supporting global cooperative efforts to
confront environmental and public
health challenges.  We want to see the
U.S. resume its leadership role in
protecting the global environment.  We
promote the establishment of an
international system to help countries
work together to protect the
environment and manage shared
natural resources.

There are dozens of local chapters of “Citizens for Global Solutions” all
across the United States. Our chapter in Oklahoma is still in formation.
This is a great time for you to get involved!

Here’s a short report on our situation, from a strategic perspective—

Early January, 2005

(1)  Strengths.  Drew Asson of the CfGS national office has been a great resource for
us.  He has supplied me with the names of about 70 Oklahomans who are already
members of Global Solutions.  So, we have a fairly good membership base to start with.
Last November, at the Fall Peace Festival in Oklahoma City, I collected the names of
about 30 more people who are interested in joining.  This indicates to me that there is
some real good interest in our mission.  We need to turn that interest into energy!

(2)  Weaknesses.  We don’t have a chapter organization yet.  We haven’t had a
general meeting of our Oklahoma members.  We don’t have any by-laws.  There are no
officers.  I have identified several leadership positions that need to be filled, but I don’t
know who those leaders will be yet.  Financially speaking, our chapter is starting out
with a clean slate.  We can expect some limited support from the national office in the
future, but that will be after we are up on our feet and demonstrating that we’re getting
things done.  Our first challenge will be to pull together our human and capital resources.

(3)  Opportunities.  In terms of making a difference on global issues, our
opportunities are wide open.  Oklahomans need a stronger voice speaking up for global
solutions.  Our chapter can serve to amplify the concerns of thousands of our neighbors
who support cooperative, multi-lateral approaches to the problems that are faced by our
world.  In terms of building a stronger civil society, we can make a difference, too.  We
can work cooperatively with other organizations to help to support the global education
movement in Oklahoma.  In many respects, there is no way to go but up!

(4)  Threats.  Thinking about barriers to the formation of a strong chapter, there are
no obstacles that can’t be overcome.  Other communities from Maine to California have
organized successful chapters of Citizens for Global Solutions.  Even so, we should
recognize there are limits to what we can expect to achieve.  Partly, this is because we’re
facing a political environment in our state that is significantly influenced by isolationism
and xenophobia.  Partly, it is because our “global education” quotient in Oklahoma hasn’t
yet caught up with other more globally integrated parts of the world.  These “threats” to
our success will continue to be features of our operating environment in the foreseeable
future.

In summary, we have a good opportunity to build a successful chapter here in Oklahoma
– one that can benefit all Oklahomans – if we approach the task with positive energy,
integrity, and enthusiasm.

Our Mission:
Our Vision:
Our Issues
From the Preamble to the Statutes of the
World Federalist Movement

1. As members of the World Federalist Movement, we affirm our determination
to exercise our rights and responsibilities as citizens of the whole world in order
to achieve the high purposes of the United Nations.

2. Ours is a planet in crisis, suffering grave problems unable to be managed by
nations acting separately in an ungoverned world. It has become urgent for the
world's people and governments to join in achieving a new level of global
cooperation such as can only be sustained by a commitment to the planet as a
genuine community. We make that commitment, and call on our fellow citizens
and governments to do the same.

3. As world federalists, we view the world as one society embracing all of
humanity in all its diversity. We affirm that the ideals and principles of
community life which are basic to civilized existence can and must be applied to
international relations. To this end, we call for urgent progress in developing the
democratic world institutions of law by which the world's people and nations
can govern their relations to assure a peaceful, just and ecologically
sustainable world community.
